The Headlight Bulb Trap

Hella headlight bulbs work well when the components around them are known. That means the bulb base, the heat sink clearance, the output color, and the electrical load. A bulb that works in one vehicle model won't automatically perform in another—not because the bulb is bad, but because the housing is different. The same bulb can be perfect in a Euro-spec sedan and useless in a truck with a sealed lamp unit.

That's roughly 3.4 to 5.7 years of continuous operation. The cheap no-name strips? Many don't even publish a lifetime number.
There's another layer: heat. If you mount a strip in an enclosed aluminum channel, the temperature drops, but you still need a thermal pad. If you just stick it to fabric or foam, it cooks itself. I've seen a supposedly high-end strip fail in 18 months because the installer skipped the heat budget.

- Measure the temperature at the solder points. Keep it below 85°C if possible, and lower is better.
- Don't run a strip at 100% all night. Derate to 80% if you want it to last.

So yes, you can leave LED strips on overnight. But 'can' is doing a lot of work there.
The Zigbee Connector Nobody Checks
Another hidden failure point: the Zigbee connector. If you're building smart lighting, the Zigbee connector is the physical bridge between the strip and the controller. Get it wrong, and your Wi-Fi might pair but the strip won't light.

The surprise wasn't that cheap ones failed. It was that expensive ones failed too when the wire gauge didn't match the strip's current draw.

The Lights Chandelier Lesson
